Raleigh Renaissance

Projects and link pages are back up

The projects page and links page are now back up.

The projects page is sortable, so if you click on the column headings you can sort projects alphabetically, by their types, current status and their heights. The next update (coming up sometime this week) will allow you to click on the project to get a rendering and more information. The information is “current”, but keep in mind that some projects still don’t have final heights/floor counts.

Galleries completed

All the old galleries have now been added, Check them out!

News and Gallery

Old news articles are now accessible under the “News” tab or ” the “Older News” link. Also I’ve been working on the photo gallery section which is now available under the “gallery” tab. Only one gallery is up for right now, but the others are on their way. Next steps are putting more galleries up, the links page then the “projects” page. The map and catalog are still at least a few weeks away, but should be pretty nice when done.

Slowly updating

The site is still in the process of being updated and most of the old functionality is temporarily down. Keep checking back for updates!

Changes, Changes Changes

Raleigh Renaissance is undergoing major changes/upgrades over the weekend. A new layout, updated information and more features are on the way!

Site 1 updates

Site 1 approved by the city

Site 1 (which sits across Fayetteville Street from the planned convention center hotel) will feature two mixed use towers of 20 and 14 stories. This project will tenatively include

  • ~150 condos
  • 50,000 sq. ft of shops and restaurants
  • ~280,000 sq. ft of office space
  • a Health Club
  • a 2-4 screen movie theater. (Entrance from Wilmington Street
  • Will sit atop a ~980 space underground parking deck

Construction should start later this year and hopefully will be completed in 2008.

I’m definitely looking forward to this project for several reasons. First and foremost the anticipated timing is great: 50,000 feet of retail shops AND a movie theater will give conventioneers options across the street from their hotel. (It’s much easier to point conventioneers across the street than to point them 7 blocks away.)

Additionally, this project will give Fayetteville Street more residents AND help to make it a destination outside of business hours. The movie theater also nicely complements the performing arts center.

Coming Soon

It’s been a busy couple of weeks; I’m working on several things and they should start popping up on the site over the next week.

    Downtown Raleigh Map Update

I’ve finally gotten around to adding a lot of projects to the Downtown Raleigh Projects Map.

      Added to the map

    • Green Square
    • RBC Headquarters
    • Reynolds Tower
    • Site1
    • Lafayette Hotel
    • Boylan flats
    • Contemporary Art Museum
    • Tucker Street Condos
    • Courthouse Annex
    • News and Observer HQ
    • Reynolds Tower 2

    Next Steps . . . .

For a lot of these projects, the details need to be entered/updated. Additionally, I’m working on programming a way to easily differentiate projects with different statuses/types of developments. I’ve also got a major new feature that I’m working on for the map; I can’t release details yet, but it should be pretty cool.

    Updates still on the way

Still working on upgrading the projects section. Currently the projects are sortable alphabetically, by type of project, the status of the project and the number of floors. I’m still planning on linking each project to a page by itself with more information. Feel free to take a look Projects in Downtown Raleigh but keep in mind that there is a lot left to do and that it will get much better. I still have quite a few projects that I need to double check, but I’ll add them as I get information.

    Updates are on the way

It’s been a busy week, but hopefully I can make some major updates on the site over the weekend.

    Coming soon:

    • Finishing touches to the news section, hopefully it will be a little more presentable and the past stories will be available.
    • A polished projects section
    • Updated projects section
    • Redrawn districts on the map section (to match the official districts)

That’s all for now, check back Monday morning.
